Where is the Welcome to Las Vegas Sign, this well-known desert town’s welcome sign?
The Welcome to Las Vegas Sign stands on the median strip of Las Vegas Boulevard.
Designed by Betty Willis in 1959, this sign has been welcoming Las Vegas visitors ever since.
This original sign is at the end of the southern strip, about 15 minutes walk from the Hotel Mandalay Bay, near the Las Vegas Outlet Center.
The Las Vegas Sign is lit in the dark with fluorescent tubes running on solar power since 2014.
In addition, the sign had to be moved to the southern end several times due to the expansion of the city.
That’s why it is almost not located in Las Vegas itself anymore but in the city limits of Paradise.
The sign is right on the outer border of the international airport, where the private planes of the rich are parked.
The Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign is one of the most popular photo opportunities in Las Vegas and definitely worth a visit.
Every day, hundreds of visitors are photographed in front of the sign, including many wedding couples who have just married in Las Vegas.
The best time to visit the sign is in the early morning, as it is not that hot yet, and the lighting conditions for a photo are great.
Practical is that since 2008 there is a regular parking lot with about 20 parking spaces directly in front of the sign.
So you can easily park and take some photos for free.
However, you have to bring some patience, many have the same thought, and the queue is long.
