Taking a domestic flight is a great way to travel around in Costa Rica. You will save time, get to enjoy breathtaking views and it will be way easier to reach destinations like Tortuguero that are difficult to reach by land transportation.
Costa Rica Domestic Airlines
If you want to book regional flights in Costa Rica you can choose between two airlines: SANSA Airlines and Aerobell Airlines
SANSA Airlines Costa Rica
SANSA Airlines operates from the main international airport in San Jose (SJO). That’s the airport where you will land when flying in to Costa Rica.
You can fly to the following destination from San José with SANSA Air:
- La Fortuna
- Puerto Jiménez
- San Isidro, Pérez Zeledón
- Costa Esmeralda
- Bahía Drake
- Palmar Sur
- and Golfito
Aerobell Airlines Costa Rica
Aerobell Airlines offers daily domestic flights from the Tobías Bolaños International Airport in Pavas, San Jose to the following eleven destinations in Costa Rica:
- La Fortuna (Arenal Volcano)
- Drake Bay
- Puerto Jiménez
Additionally, Aerobell Airlines connects the Pavas Aiport with Bocas del Toro in Panama and will soon also fly to David in Panama.
Prices start at 45USD one way and 80USD round trip.
Nature Air Regional Flights
UPDATE: Since a deadly crash on December 31, 2017 Nature Air has been grounded. It is very unlikely that the airline will ever operate again.
Nature Air offers flights to the following 14 destinations from Costa Rica’s capital city San José: Tamarindo Quepos, Manuel Antonio Arenal Volcano Drake Bay Golfito Puerto Jiménez Limón Punta Islita Nosara Tambor Tortuguero Liberia Besides the domestic flights, Nature Air also connects San José with Managua in Nicaragua and Bocas del Toro in Panama.
